Cleaning Your Tiles Made Easy

How do we keep the tiles on our floor or wall immaculate and pristine?

Ceramic tiles supplier from Singapore, Ben Samuels, 34, shared not to use rough objects to smoothen the tiles if the dirt is easy to remove, “If it is just dust or some mud, you can easily remove that with a wet cloth as long as you put the right amount of pressure to it. The problem with using cleaning tools with rough surfaces is that they can scratch the tile. And when this happens, the ceramic tile will never be the same again. The rule is to always be careful is you want your tiles to last.”

Mylene, 28, a home owner and mother of 3 from Singapore, also shared some tips about cleaning ceramic floor tiles, “Hazy tiles for instance may be cleansed with some nonabrasive all-purpose cleaner. I like using lemon juice or baking soda in such case. When the dirt is just too stubborn, that’s when I use a special tool to remove something. For instance, when I chanced upon a bubble gum on my wall tiles, I used a slim tip of a screw driver to remove it. I was very careful not to ruin the surface of the tile so it took me some time to really get rid of everything.”

“Mop the floor with warm water. If the floor doesn't have stains or require heavy cleaning, running a damp mop over the floor will be sufficient to keep it clean. Cleanse the mop in fresh, warm water after mopping one section of the room, and repeat until the entire floor is mopped…You may opt to add a small amount of dish soap to the mix to pick up everyday dust and debris….For everyday shine, simply run a clean damp dusting cloth over the floor, or consider using a dry mop such as a Swiffer,” wrote an unnamed writer of wikihow.com in the article titled How to Clean Tile Flooring.

“Sweep or vacuum your glazed tile floors regularly to keep them from getting dull. Tiles may be resistant to dirt, but sand and grit can dull glazed surfaces. Clean tile with mild detergent and clean water, using a rag or chamois-type mop rather than a sponge mop. The latter pushes dirty water into grout lines and makes them harder to clean. Be sure to change the water frequently while mopping; dirty water equals a cloudy floor,” shared an anonymous writer for bhg.com in the article How to Clean Tile Floors. The article further shared, “The real secret to a great-looking tile floor is clean grout. Grout is porous and absorbs grease and other stains. Skip commercial cleaners and instead make a paste of baking soda and water. Rub it on the stain, let it sit overnight, then scrub the stain in the morning with a stiff nylon brush (a metal brush will damage the grout). Repeat as necessary. Apply a silicone-base sealer to the grout to repel future stains.”
